Woody On His Holidays.....

A picture of our very own Woody enjoying his first proper family holiday on the Isle of Mull. I love the way his Dad even dresses like him!

It's A Hard Life.....

It's a tough life being a little old guy at my house, here's Brooke's working really hard.

Sonny Goes Home.....

I'm delighted to say that Sonny is now out on home trial and as you can see he is taking everything in his stride. Sonny is a wonderful dog with such strong Shepherd traits, we'd taken him as far as we could in here. It's early days but already there is such a bond between him and his new Dad, and he truly does deserve to be happy.

Two Years Since We Lost Jack.....

Yesterday was the second anniversary of us having to say goodbye to old Jack. Jack came to us after his owner died and he was only with us before a serious spine illness meant he was reunited with the Dad he loved. I was fond of Jack and wish I could of done more for him, but I take comfort knowing that he's back with the man he adored.

A Real Little Honey.....

Another SHAK girl doing well is Honey. It's hard to believe that these photos are of the same dog that arrived with us having been used as live bait in a dog fight. Really proud of her and its great to see her so happy.

3's Family.....

We've obviously had a really good time with finding Forever Foster homes of late, but its even better when three go to three different members of the same family! I love these pictures of our Jack, Nell and Rhys with there new pal Cuddles the Rottweiler. It's a combination we certainly didn't try together when they were with us, but I think you'll agree they look pretty awesome.

Wilf Goes Home.....

It hasn't all been sad news though, and I'm delighted to say that Wilf has now found hius Forever Foster home. You'll remember the bald state that arrived with us (pictures below) and its great to see him now happy. He's doing well with all the dogs he goes walking with, and has a new girlfriend too.

As you can see, Wilf was in a pretty bad way on arrival, below however is how he is now, and with his new beautiful girlfriend.

Poppy Leaves Us.....

Exactly a week to the day since I had to say goodbye to Miko there was more heartache in the SHAK family as the original "Nana" dog left us for the next pain free life. Poppy was simply gorgeous, doddery and wobbly, she arrived with us having been abandonned at the seaside.

Melvyn and Tracy fell in love with her instantly and whisked her away to her new family as soon as they could. She was a character and a sweetheart, and leaves behind a family that all miss her so much. Run free old girl, and thank you for bringing so much joy.

Still Sad, But Happy Times Too.....

Thank you to everyone for their kind messages regarding the passing of the wonderful Miko. All I can say is that he has left a huge hole in my soul, and although I knew his stay with me would be a short term one, I never dreamt that it would be this short and would end like this. Miko amazed me, he adored me but nowhere near the amount I adored him. I miss him so much.

Sorry too for missing the radio show last Thursday, given what had happened minutes before I just couldn't face it.

It's been a bit of a blur, but things have been so busy at The Rescue Place that as they say "the show must go on."

So with that in mind I'm delighted to say that over the weekend we had 4 dogs move into potential foster homes. Two have already been fully adopted in our Forever Foster scheme, whilst the others are doing very well.

First up, Ash and Fletcher have both been fully adopted, and I didn't even have time to get Fletcher on here, as the people who found him as a stray kept in touch  and after a couple of weeks decided enough was enough and wanted to give him a home. Ash has progressed so far in Lesley's good hands, and now shares his new house with other dogs. Two really amazing stories for two fantastic dogs.
Ash, a boy who's worked so hard to start a new life.

Fletcher, who has witnessed love at first sight.
Another two dogs that have had a big weekend are Mylo and Rosie. Both are currently on home trial, but from phonecalls today, both are doing really well and there are plans to hopefully cement their places in their new homes soon. We're all very proud of all four dogs, and after a very difficult, sad and emotional time they have filled our hearts with hope.
Rosie.
Mylo.

Farewell To Miko.....

Miko became unwell this morning, and at 6am I rushed him to the vets with a suspected stomach torsion. Surgery showed that as well twisting, the stomach had severely rupured, to the point that it was unrepairable. I had to say goodbye to a dog that had become my best friend over the last couple of months.

Stomach torsions happen in "barrel chested" dogs, there have been several studies but none have come up with a definative reason for why they happen. It's just life I suppose, but it's a horrible thing and as soon as I saw Miko I knew it was serious.

Miko's last weeks on this earth have been a pleasure for me, him and my other dogs. The turnaround in him from when he arrived 3 and a half years ago is nothing short of amazing, and will give me strength to keep going and give these dogs a chance.

People have already started to tell me "at least he was with you in a home at the end, he was lucky to have you" but I see it a totally different way. I was lucky to get to see the real Miko. The Miko that adored my daughter, the Miko that loved to play with the other dogs despite his poor frame, and the Miko that loved to gaze into the fire on a night time.

Miko was incredible and I am going to miss him so much. Maybes a bit like Dudley the bond we shared was close and instant, and the hole he has left behind in my life just as big.

Scout, A White German Shepherd???.....

Scout is another stray who has clearly been living in some kind of yard. His coat is dry and covered in oil, and parts of him it is hard to see that he is white! We have plans for a trip to the groomers, and Scout is now under full assessment so is not available for Forever Foster. I will update you on his progress.

Logan On The Lookout.....

Logan is another youngster that came to us as a stray. Very much a puppy still, who loves to play and loves other dogs, Logan is a great dog for an active and playful family. If you wish to be considered for a potential Forever Foster home for Logan, please contact foreverfoster@shak.org.uk

Looking For A Forever Home For Mylo.....

Mylo came to us as a very young and boisterous stray. Eager to learn and please, he's going to make somebody a great soul mate. As you can see from these photographs, he is a Labrador Retriever in every sense of the word. If you are interested in being considered as a possible Forever Foster home for Mylo, then please contact foreverfoster@shak.org.uk

Could You Sponsor Our Radio Show.....

Thank you to everyone who listened into today's show, and to everyone who has done over the previous weeks. We are gaining fantastic support from the show, and we are very grateful to Lionheart Radio for giving us this opportunity.

Lionheart is a completely voluntary organisation, and relies on advertising and sponsors to meet its overheads and rent. As a result, with the "It's A Dogs Life" show now well established we are looking for a sponsor for our show. For only £30 per month your name could be attached to the show, and would help keep the show and Lionheart on the air.

For more info please contact shak@shak.org.uk
