Thanks For The Good Reviews.....

It's really strange but so pleasing to see the reviews of It's A Dogs Life on a site like Amazon. All the hardwork and soul searching it took to write this book is no longer just mine, the public have it! Its been very well received, and that in itself makes it worthwhile as people are clearly getting the point behind it.

Shameless plug now, but if you haven't already got your copy you can from:

My Best Friend And True Inspiration.....

It's 7 years to the day today since I lost my best friend and the dog that started all this. Shak was cruelly and unexpectedly taken from me by Lymphoma, and what hurt the most was that I was helpless to help a friend that had done so much for me. Over the years I have said everything that there is to say about him, Shak kept me going when times were tough and by what this charity has achieved he still does to this very day. I have made so many very special canine friends after him, even though I said "no more dogs" because I couldn't deal with the pain of losing him, so many dogs owe their lives to that scraggy Cross that stole my heart in a pound one day. I loved you the minute I saw you Shak, and I always will. I miss you.....

Butch, Kane and Otto2 Too.....

Otto2 had a great day at the weekend making friends with SHAK's favourite twins Butch and Kane. All three dogs have a similar energy level, so it was a good call by Melissa and Eilidh to give them a run out together. As you can see, it was great fun and new best friends were certainly made.

Still Remember The Deepest Bark Ever.....

On Saturday it was 3 years to the day since we lost a big dog with the biggest bark you've ever heard. Zac was a gentle soul, beautiful and so big. I never did quite work out what possibly could of been the reason that he ended up unwanted and needing us. I'll never forget your bark Big Z, and rest assured you were loved and wanted with us.....and still are.

And The Winner Is.....

The Winning Photo.
Five-year-old greyhound Wilmie was the people’s choice as the champion of the Jam Jar Army’s My Best Friend photo competition.

The contest was run as a fund-raiser for this year’s charity SHAK and the initial 64 dogs were whittled down to a shortlist of 10 by Alnwick-based photographer Andy Craig, who is also providing the prize.
It was then opened up to our readers to decide the winner and despite it being close at the top, Wilmie just got her nose in front.

Her owner, Senga Moffat, from Longframlington, was delighted that Wilmie had beaten such stiff competition.
“I really am very pleased as there were some beautiful dogs,” she said. “There were a lot of lovely dogs in there and not everyone likes greyhounds so I’m really, really pleased.”

Wilmie has been with Senga for about two years now, after she was adopted from the Retired Greyhound Trust in Hexham.

The fact that she’s a rescue dog like those that are looked after by SHAK inspired Senga to enter Wilmie in the first place.
“It’s good to promote the Greyhound Trust as well, because they make lovely pets,” added Senga.

Wilmie’s prize is a pet portrait session with Andy, who has a gallery in Alnwick’s Fenkle Street, which usually costs at least £50.

In total, the competition brought in more than £360 for the Jam Jar Army appeal.

On behalf of everyone at SHAK, thanks to everyone who entered, voted and especially Andy Craig and the Northumberland Gazette. Keep your eyes peeled for the Christmas Competition.....

Let Me Kiss You.....

I mentioned Star in the updates on here last night, and said how far she had come on. This is a dog who arrived Easter Saturday and until two weeks ago we couldn't touch. I think these photo's show how special these kisses are.....

Can You Help With The 2014 Calendar.....

Incredibly yes it is that time of year where we start looking at putting together the 2014 SHAK Calendar. The photo's are all in hand, but we need your help to try and cover the printing costs. If you or your company would like to sponsor a month and get your logo and phone number on that page then please get in touch with joanaustin@shak.org.uk

We're not asking for much, a one off fee of £50 for an advert that goes all around the world. Thanks in advance for your support.

Little Bella.....

The latest addition to the SHAK family is little Bella. I think the pictures here say enough on this one. She is local to us. This is happening on your doorstep.

However, as you can see she is making new friends already, and showing so much love to us all it is incredible considering the state she is in. Such a brave and strong little girl.

I think David is jealous because Hobo got a kiss!

Some Of My Fosters In The Sun.....

After sharing all the snow shots I thought you'd like to see some of some of my SHAK fosters enjoying the sunshine.....
The Beautiful Molly.

And the equally Gorgeous Dolly.

Dolly.

Haden. It's great to see him like this after a couple of weeks ago.

Bouncing Bouncer.....

I simply love this picture of Bouncer enjoying Melissa's jumps!

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.....

It's great to see Star begin to trust us after weeks of being absolutely terrified. Melissa and I have done a whole load of work to get her to where we can actually touch her, but everyone who has made friends with her in the last two weeks will know just how far she has come. Proud of you little un.

Two Gorgeous Dogs Find Their Place.....

I'm delighted to say that both Annie and Denbar have now found Forever Foster homes. Both deserved a place to call their own, and thanks to Lesley for fostering Denbar on his way.

BBQ Time.....

Another SHAK boy having fun and waiting for the barbecue with his Mam and sister Reise is Till. How happy does this old guy look.....

Taking It Easy.....

Nice to see Benji adjusting to his new family role.
