Thanks To All That Have Pre Ordered!....

Abandoned by the people you trust, left on your own without the family you adore. Everything you've ever known gone forever. Surrounded by strange places and strange people. Your whole life turned upside down. How would you cope?

But every cloud has a silver lining and for this dog the emptiness is gradually replaced by new friends, best friends, all with their own story to tell, and perhaps all facing the same fate.

It’s A Dog's Lifeis an insight into the frightening and heart-breaking world of a stray dog – a Rottweiler’s view on life in a pound after he loses everything he's ever owned, loved and cherished, and his battle to try and understand why.

Written by myself, Stephen Wylie, each copy sold means a donation to SHAK.

"Can't believe we have had Roxy for a year but it also feels as she has always been here. We can't imagine being without her. You will be pleased to know she is not afraid of anyone now new people get woofed at once then she goes up to them
with wagging tail wanting a fuss. She thinks everyone loves her which is only right.

Have a happy Christmas I do hope you don't get too many abandoned dogs best wishes to all at SHAK"

Update On Jetta.....

"Everything is going really well with Jetta, and we all completed training with him recently which was great to do! Could not imagine my life without him, feels like we have had him a lot longer - in a good way! He has really settled in well, and with these colder nights, any time I go to light the wood burner he cant get there quick enough and doesn't move until it has totally gone out - has the best seat in thehouse!

James and I recently had a lovely long weekend in the Cotswold's and took Jetta with us. I have attached some photos of Jetta for you."

Riley Goes Home.....

I'm delighted to say that Riley has found a new Forever Foster home after waiting patiently with us for so long. Riley has come on leaps and bounds since the day I collected him as a stray, and we're all so pleased that he has this chance. I hear that he is being spoilt rotten and loves his new Mam and Dad dearly, and I know for a fact the feeling is mutual.

And Now For Gemini.....

Gemini joined Diesel on the road South just for the trip, and as you can see she made quite an impression!

Gemini is a small black and white Staffie female, about 2 years old.  She shares her kennel with a small male Staffie, Nanuk and has German Shepherd playmates.
She recently had a homestay weekend and was an absolute star. On jumping down from the car, she immediately joined the afternoon walk gang of 7 large dogs and greeted them all happily and confidently. She made friends with them all during the walk but particularly liked Oscar the Rottie as he had a very large stick that she hung onto the other end of!
In the house, she made herself instantly at home, investigating the toy basket and choosing her favourites. Every person she met got a huge cuddle and kiss and she spent a happy hour alternating between toys, dogs and people. She settled down well after her food and was clean and quiet all night.
The next morning, she bounced up, used the bathroom (garden) ate her breakfast and then sorted out the toys again and prepared for fun. When none of the others wanted to play, she made up her own little game and was perfectly content. It was easy to see that she remembered very well what you do in a home and she would have just happily slotted in and called this her own.
It was quite sad to let her go back; she`s a lovely, happy, lively spirit to have around – so affectionate and friendly to everyone.  She`d love an active home with another dog (ideally, with her kennel-mate Nanuk) but a large dog would suit her fine as she definitely thinks she`s up to it!  Like all Staffies, she loves her walks and games and would be a super family pet.
Can  somebody offer this great little girl a forever home? foreverfoster@shak.org.uk

Diesel Goes Home.....

I'm delighted to say that Diesel now has a home, and by all accounts what a home. Diesel came to us a notorious strayer, and a dog that was desperate to be loved. He has gone to a home that includes his own arm chair and 3 acres to play in with his two new canine friends. He is a big miss at the kennels, but we are all so proud of him. Thanks once again to Lesley & Geoff for making this happen.

A Year Makes All The Difference For Suki.....

This time last year I was picking Suki up as a stray in desperate need of a cruciate ligament operation. The team at Moorview Vets (especially Kelly) were brilliant, and a new home was found without me even getting her back from the vets. Her Dad sent me this tonight as she prepares for her first Christmas in a home. Proud of you Beautiful.

Room For One More In Santa's Sack?....

I know things are usually tight around Christmas, but if you get a minute please look at our Amazon Wish List, and maybes squeeze one more thing into your Santa's sack. Thanks for taking the time to look at this and thank you to you for your support.

Oscar And His Prize.....

My pal Oscar proudly holding his prize from today's walk.

Two Girls All Cosy.....

Two more SHAK dogs enjoying a warm fire on a cold night is Flossie and Hope. Everyone will remember how Emaciated Hope was when she arrived. It is so great to see her living life to the full and enjoying a cosy night. Flossie was also in a bad way when she arrived, hers was emotional damage though. Merry Christmas girls. Thanks Sheena

Brodie's First Christmas.....

Love this photo of Brodie and his girlfriend Maisy getting ready for his first Christmas. The handsome boy had a bad weekend as he ruptured his cruciate ligament on the ice, but as you can see he is determined to enjoy the holidays. Get well soon Brodie!

Two Seasons In One Day.....

It's hard to believe that both of these pictures were taken today. Above is little Brookes who had a jaunt into work with me today, and as you can see he isn't a big fan of the snow we had this morning.
And here's Scout just a few hours later thoroughly enjoying a walk with me in the hills. Yes the white stuff replaced with blue skies, crazy weather.
