Kane And Butch Go To The Seaside.....

It shows the commitment of Melissa and David that after a hard days work at the kennels they can still find the will and the energy to spend just that little bit more of their own time with the dogs. Last night it was Kane and Butch who were lucky enough to catch one of the last nights of late summer sun at the seaside!

Before they arrived with us they hadn't seen beyond their back garden, so obviously a big vast expanse like this was a little bit of a culture shock to them, but as you can see from the photo's that didn't stop them having a good time!

A New Start For A Bright Star.....

A new arrival in an absolutely desperate state meant that to create a space, another one of our dogs had to come home to me (temporarily!) There will be more on the state of THE MOST SHUTDOWN DOG I HAVE EVER SEEN later in the week, but in the meantime it was Star that pulled the short straw and came home. You may remember how terrified of everything she was on arrival, and how it took me over two months before I could even touch her. Well, here she is enjoying her walk with me tonight.

Sunshine With A Special Old Man.....

Old age comes to us all, and its sad when it does. Smokey is one of a few of the original SHAK team that's beginning to show his age. Today Melissa and I enjoyed some special time with him in the late summer sun, and I wanted to share these photo's with you now. He still loves a ball, and a cuddle, just plays that little bit slower these days.

An Update From Fletch.....

Thought you might like to see an update from the gorgeous Fletch. Well done to his family for sticking by him in some difficult times, and well done to him too for learning whats right!

"Hi Steve
Thought we would send you an update on fletch ( forever foster November 2012) we have worked through some big teething problems and he's doing well. Still nervous of some situations but coming on beautifully.

Many thanks again
Jenna and Sarah ( Ace,Eddie,Brack,Cassie and Fletch )"

Latest From Collie Club.....

Following on from the photo's of Mac enjoying the sun with me the other day, here is the latest from Collie Club:
Remember the first rule..... You don't bark about Collie Club!

From One Very Scared Dog To One Very Happy One.....

You'll remember Bree the dog that is just so terrified..... Well Melissa has been working so hard with her, and has even began to build up her faith in men by introducing David to their sessions, that money quite simply couldn't buy the joy these photographs bring:

And I think this last one says it all. Well done Melissa, you've made one very scared dog very happy.

Seeing Out The Summer With Mac.....

I had great fun with Mac in the last few days of sunshine last week. This dog is frisbee daft, as you can see from the concentration in his eyes. He is very slowly learning to trust and realise that the people at SHAK are ok, and of course he loves his visits from his Collie (and ex SHAK dogs) pals Skippy and Sparky.

Party Hard On A Friday.....

Thought you might appreciate to see how two SHAK oldies spend their Friday night! Ava and Lennox were both written off and discarded, they play such a huge part in my home, even if it is just their snoring!

Blue Goes Home.....

Some great news now, as I'm delighted to say that Blue has found a Forever Foster home. The word is he has found his sea legs and loving daily trips to the seaside, not sure he'll be thinking that in November! Best of luck Blue.

It's A Dogs Life Goes Around The World.....

Speaking of my book "It's A Dog's Life" it was great to see that it continues to spread the word of SHAK around the world with the latest bunch of holiday photographs. Keep them coming!

Shameless plug but of course you can buy your copy from:

It's A Dogs Life

These two were taken at Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt.....

Whilst this copy made it all the way to Tenerife!

Woody's Pawty!....

Another great event that raised over £450 was Woody's Pawty, a celebration of Woody being in his home for a year. If ever a dog landed on all four feet it was Woody, the flea bitten Lurcher we picked up with the red raw skin. His Mam and Dad adore him, and so do all their friends by the success of his "pawty!" The day included lucky poo bags and an auctioning of a signed copy of my book (??!?) and obviously a great deal of fun! Thanks so much Kate and Ant, and of course thank you Woody. We're all so proud of you!

Joe Allon Tickets.....

I now have the tickets for this Jam Jar Army event, but they are selling fast. Please get in touch via shak@shak.org.uk if you would like to buy yours!

A Trip To The Seaside.....

It was great to see Toni and Pepper enjoying a day out at the beach with Melissa and Eilidh. These dogs have come on so much from the two flea ridden, emaciated messes that arrived at our door step one Saturday morning. I think you can see the joy in these photographs:

Jam Jar Army Update.....

A massive thank you to everyone that is supporting our Jam Jar Army Campaign through the Northumberland Gazette. We've had some great events from Race Nights, to Pub Quizes, to Car Boot Sales, to Agility Classes..... All going to contribute an amazing running total so far of £5,787.51p. This total is even more impressive as we're still only 5 months into the 12 with the target to reach £10,000.

One fantastic event was Serena's moment of madness in deciding to do a bungee jump at Newcastle Quayside. As you can see, it must of taken some bottle, and in doing so she raised over £1,000! Incredible, thank you Serena!

We still desperately need people to hold their own events to help us hit the £10,000 mark as soon as possible. You can discuss any ideas with me via email shak@shak.org.uk

Thanks once again for your fantastic support.
