The start of March arrives and the new Jam Jar Army march begins, with the campaign’s third year raising funds for SHAK.
The charity (Safe Homes and Kindness) was the winner of our public vote for the 2013 beneficiary, taking almost a third of the vote.
Set up in 2006 by Stephen Wylie, SHAK aims to help the dogs in Northumberland that no one else will – large breeds.
And to signal the handover from the Alnwick Playhouse Youth Theatre (last year’s beneficiary), the two have teamed up to organise a fund-raising dog walk from the Playhouse.
It will set off from the venue at noon next Friday (March 8) to help raise awareness of the Jam Jar Army’s new campaign and charity.
Stephen Wylie said: “It’s great because it reminds people what it’s all about.
“At the end of the day, it’s for the benefit of the dogs that are here, so I think it’s a brilliant idea.”
Last year’s campaign raised more than £12,000 for the Youth Theatre, so it is hoped that a similar amount can be raised for SHAK this year.
But for it to be a success, we need you, the readers, to be as generous as you have in the last two years and collect all your spare change in jars.
All the money goes to support the dogs at SHAK’s sanctuary in a farmhouse north of Alnwick, where around 45 large-breed dogs are housed at any one time.
