Five-year-old greyhound Wilmie was the people’s choice as the champion of the Jam Jar Army’s My Best Friend photo competition.
The contest was run as a fund-raiser for this year’s charity SHAK and the initial 64 dogs were whittled down to a shortlist of 10 by Alnwick-based photographer Andy Craig, who is also providing the prize.
It was then opened up to our readers to decide the winner and despite it being close at the top, Wilmie just got her nose in front.
Her owner, Senga Moffat, from Longframlington, was delighted that Wilmie had beaten such stiff competition.
“I really am very pleased as there were some beautiful dogs,” she said. “There were a lot of lovely dogs in there and not everyone likes greyhounds so I’m really, really pleased.”
Wilmie has been with Senga for about two years now, after she was adopted from the Retired Greyhound Trust in Hexham.
The fact that she’s a rescue dog like those that are looked after by SHAK inspired Senga to enter Wilmie in the first place.
“It’s good to promote the Greyhound Trust as well, because they make lovely pets,” added Senga.
Wilmie’s prize is a pet portrait session with Andy, who has a gallery in Alnwick’s Fenkle Street, which usually costs at least £50.
In total, the competition brought in more than £360 for the Jam Jar Army appeal.
